Sandhurst School

Curriculum

Our students follow the National Curriculum and a broad range of subjects over a two-week timetable consisting of a total of 50 one-hour lessons. This allows students to demonstrate their individual talents, whilst providing a sound basis for further study and for success in later life.

All students are required to attend all timetabled lessons and sessions. Whilst parents/carers have the right to withdraw students from Sex Education (except that required as part of National Curriculum Science), we encourage all students to follow this important part of the School’s curriculum. Details of our programme can be obtained from the school.

Students study English, Mathematics, Science, Modern Foreign Language, Design & Technology, Cooking & Nutrition, History, Geography, Art, Music, Drama, Physical Education, LIFE – Learning, Identity, Faith and Ethics (Religious Education, Sex, Relationships and Health Education), Computing.

In Year 7, students in need of literacy or numeracy support are withdrawn from languages for the first two rotations and given additional support before entering the third rotation, allowing them to follow language courses in Years 8 and 9.

Over the academic year, students partake in a planned careers programme. Through timetabled LIFE or PSCHE lessons, we will deliver a number of career and work-related learning sessions to students from Year 7-11, giving opportunity to learn more about post-16 options, qualifications, skills & attributes, being work-ready, the skills gap, labour market information, applying to college & sixth form, CV writing and interview techniques.
